I just purchased the following: Hot Rod Deluxe, Type PR246, Serial # B-263474. It seems that the special editions were usually 0 more than the standard models, so retail maybe 9 new.
The front has the emblem "Fender-Deluxe", It has the vintage knobs and the vintage Celestian 30 speaker. We can't tell much by the serial number, maybe you could post a picture. The "Hot Rod Deluxe 112 Extension", is a 1x12 extension speaker cabinet, while the "Hot Rod Deluxe III" is just the latest version of the HRDlx amp, being the third (III) iteration, which has a black control panel instead of chrome on the previous versions (there are exceptions on chrome panel).
It is also advisable to add about 6 months to the date to allow for time these parts may have spent in storage.I had read that the special edition version added the Celestion speaker that may be a little better, but other than that, I don't know. I would like to know the year built also if anyone can help. differences between the regular and special editions are the speaker and the covering on the amp cabinet, the amp is the same in both.the V30 has a great reputation, but "better" is in the ear of the beholder. These date codes will contain two letters of the alphabet which refer to the year and month of production, and may be interpreted as follows: In the absence of the rubber-stamped date codes, EIA numbers taken from the transformers may allow you to determine the date of production of your amp. These numbers always begin with "606" , and are followed by three or four digits in various combinations.Subtract one from the other and I'll have a rough-cut figure for how many were made. PRII owners were kind enough to start sending their serial numbers in.I was puzzled to see how some of them were separated by over 100,000.The version III is just the latest/newest version of the regular amp, and has some minor circuit revisions and a Celestion "G12P80" speaker, instead of the Eminence "Gold Label" speaker, and a black control panel, but essentially the same amp as previous versions. The "Special" or "Limited" editions are the same horse, different color and speaker, and have so far not been version III (black panel).Welcome to Rickenbacker's serial number decoder page.Rickenbacker serial numbers have been issued in a number of formats.
